Constantin CARABELLA


Former mayor of Târgoviște, supporter of the school and culture of Dâmboviţa county, Constantin Carabella was a personality of the public life in Târgoviște at the end of the 19th century and in the first decades of the 20th century.

At the age of 19, he managed to hold the position of copyist, followed by other positions: assistant clerk at the Dâmbovița Court, clerk at the Buzǎu, Dâmbovița and Ilfov Courts, director of the Dâmbovița Prefecture, clerk at the Bucharest Court of Appeal.

Attracted by his political life, he became assistant mayor and then mayor of Târgoviște, asserting himself as an honest landlord and devoted to the city. Among the most important achievements are the construction of the Târgoviște - Pietroșița railway and the construction of a new premises for the County Hospital.

On the basis of his donations, the Girls' Secondary School functioned and the premises of the "Constantin and Maria Carabella" high school were built. The high school was inaugurated on December 13th, 1925 in the presence of the ministers I.G. Duca, Gheorghe Mârzescu and Constantin Angelescu.

Appreciated as a generous man, Constantin Carabella remained in the history of the city as a supporter of the schools in Targoviste.
