CHURCH OF SAINT DUMITRU BUZINCA

Among the medieval churches, the White Church has a special story that begins in the sixteenth century and continues nowadays. It bears this name to distinguish it from the Red Church, built by the village headman Coanda in 1545. The White Church belongs to the category of hall-type churches, with a single ship and rectangular plan, characterized by the absence of lateral apses, a construction technique frequently spread in the Balkan architecture. This kind of church is the living proof of an ancient capital, a fascinating history, and conveys a rich historical and cultural wealth that we are proud of.

Saint Nicolae - Simuleasa Church is a XVII century medieval church and it was built, according to the inscription written by Jupan Mirco, with his wife, Ioana and his family, on a triconc plan. One of the valuable elements of the church architecture is the portal of stone entrance, with accolade profile shape of the upper part, which initially was in the western wall of the narthex. Above the entrance, with letters dug in stone and blackened by time, stands the writing of 1654.

The story of the current Metropolitan of Târgoviște begins in the sixteenth century, when the Romanian Country's ruler, Neagoe Basarab, decided, at the advice of Patriarch Nifon, to move the metropolis from the Court of Argeș to Târgoviște. Today, we remember the story of the biggest and most beautiful church of the city of Targoviste, of its erection, as well as of the centuries that passed over it, until its uninspired demolition in 1889 and the building of the present church of the current Metropolitan Church built according to the plans of the French architect Lecomte du Nouy. The Metropolitan Church of Târgoviște is a representative tourist objective of the central area of the city and a cultural and historical landmark for our country.

Saint Nicolae Andronesti Church has been inspired by Neagoe Basarab foundation, Saint Gheorghe Church with the same planimetric and monumental plastic structure. The church plan was initially formed by square pronaos covered in the middle of 17th century with a calotte supported on the arc in the console, to which is added a rectangular nave and apse of the altar, circular inside. This was added to the west by a porch with eight masonry pillars, octagonal section and rounded with a semi-cylinders crosswise arranged, reinforced with two double arcs. Its medieval pictures, preserved until now, particularly impresses the visitors.

Located on the street with the same name, the Kretzulescu Church has a particular peculiarity among the monuments of ecclesiastical architecture by the fact that it uses many elements of Gothic architecture, taken from the old Catholic church nearby (portal, frames). Archaeological research undertaken in 2001 and 2002 has shown that the church had a painting that precedes the present one. When it was made was not known, it is certain that the painting’s remnants were discovered under the floor in 1861.

The Geartoglu church was built in the first part of the 15th century, over the artifacts of a wooden church from the 14th century. The church was built on the place of a wooden church. It is located in the center of the city, opposite the imposing assembly of the Stelea Monastery, at a very short distance from the Old Center and the Pricely Court, in the middle of one of the oldest neighborhoods of Târgoviște, the former " The Bottom Fair” (“Târg de Jos"). It was the place where was held prisoner for one night, in the chamber at the top of the tower, Tudor Vladimirescu.

In the south-east area of the former Stelea monastery, about 50 m distance from the current church, it was known, according to local tradition, that some foundations of an 1580 old building of the Stelea backbone were kept hidden in the ground and , for this reason, is called "Old Stelea" by citizens of Targoviste. Dating: end of 14th century and the beginning of the 15th century (Wooden Church) the second place, built in the second half of the fifteenth century, after 1459, of a triconcile plan, destroyed in 1595, rebuilt on the second half of 17th century, the last restoration in 1645, with the foundation construction of Vasile Lupu.
