Event organiser / Library
In Târgoviște, a city with old traditions in the constitution of important libraries ever since the Middle Ages, the public library opened in 1943, "sheltered in the Museum's premises until its own house is built".
One important moment was represented by construction of its own building (in proximity of City Hall) between 1947-1949, but since 1986 it has been assigned the current headquarters, located in Stelea street, no. 2. The library also operates in two branches for children and users interested in foreign-language book.
Since 1994 it has published a magazine of biblology and culture, "Courier", with semi-annual edition. Among the major events organized annually can be mentioned: National Culture Day (January); "Holiday at the library" (July), "Ion Heliade Rădulescu editorial Salon" (September), "Ion Heliade Rădulescu Library Days" (November), Evening book (weekly), Philosophy Club (weekly), as well as a multitude of cultural animation activities dedicated to events or personalities at national or local level.
